Make Your Own Eep the Mouse Costume

Is your child a fan of Eep the Mouse? Bring Eep to life with this simple and affordable costume craft! Costumes can elevate your child’s pretend-play and involving them in the crafting process has tons of benefits. Projects like this help develop problem-solving and fine motor skills, creativity, imagination and artistic expression in children of all ages.

While making costumes, you can talk to your child about following directions (including what steps come first, next and last), help them count materials and talk about shapes. If your child is an early reader, you can also practice reading and comprehension skills by having them help read the instructions below.

Crafting time is bonding time – encourage discussion, questions and artistic liberties along the way. Remember – your finished product will only last so long, but the memories you create crafting will last a lifetime. Making a DIY Mother Goose Club costume is a great activity for super-fan birthdays, Halloween or dress-up!

Materials:

All the materials you need are below. Most everything can be found around the house or at your local store. Get creative, improvise and let us know what works for you!

Eep costume materials

• Blue hooded sweatshirt
• Blue leggings
• Felt: blue, light purple, dark purple
• Dark blue duct tape
• 1 large can for tracing
• 1 small can for tracing
• Marker
• Scissors
• Glue

Step 1 – Eep’s Sweatshirt:

Eep costume step 1

To make Eep’s iconic striped belly, cut a big oval out of the light purple felt and glue it to the front of the blue sweatshirt. Then, cut stripes out of the dark purple felt and glue those on top of the light purple oval.

Step 2 – Eep’s Ears:

Eep costume step 2

Using the large can and your marker, trace two circles onto the blue felt. Cut out each circle. With the small can and your marker, trace two smaller circles on the light purple felt. Cut out each circle. Next, glue the small purple circles on top of the blue large circles. These will be Eep’s ears!

Once dry, carefully cut a slit into each circle without passing through the center. To shape the ears into small cones, add glue to one side of the slit, overlap the felt from the other side and press to hold. Once dry, glue each ear to to the hood of the blue sweatshirt.

Step 3 – Eep’s Leggings:

Eep costume step 3

Cut the blue duct tape into strips and wrap them around the leggings to make stripes. Be sure to leave a gap at the back to let your child’s legs move freely!

Step 4 – Eep’s Tail:

Eep costume step 4

Cut a tail shape out of the blue felt and glue it to the back of the sweatshirt.

Wear It and Share It!

Once everything is dry and set, it’s time to get dressed up! Be sure to pull up the hood of the sweatshirt so Eep’s ears stand up tall.
