How to Make a Cardboard Box Bus
Make a bus out of a cardboard box for pretend play!
When the bus is finished, you can pretend to drive all around the neighborhood. This craft encourages creativity and imagination especially when you let your child make creative decisions throughout the process. The more they do themselves, the more pride they’ll feel when they’re done.
For this craft you’ll need:
• A large, empty cardboard box
• White, yellow and black construction paper
• Glue
• Adult scissors
• Safety scissors
• Crayons
• Four paper plates for wheels
An adult should cut off the bottom flaps of the box.
Fold in the top flaps to make the bus sturdy.
Make windows by cutting white paper in half to fit on the box. If you feel comfortable letting your child use safety scissors, let them help cut to exercise the small muscles in their hands and develop fine motor skills.
Add two pieces of white paper to the front of the box to create a windshield.
Fold a yellow piece of paper in half, draw a circle (for headlights) and then cut out – you’ll have two circles.
Glue the headlights on under the windshield.
To make wipers, cut two long strips of black paper.
Decorate and glue on paper plates for wheels.
Try singing “The Wheels on the Bus” during playtime:
The wheels on the bus go round and round,
Round and round, round and round.
The wheels on the bus go round and round,
all through the town.
